Building a Legacy of Sustainable Winemaking

At Matanzas Creek, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. As one of the first wineries to feature the Certified California Sustainable logo on our label, starting with the 2017 vintage, we undergo rigorous annual third-party audits to meet over 200 criteria, including water and energy efficiency, pest and waste management, biodiversity, and employee policies. We dedicate three-fourths of our estate to its natural habitat, fostering biodiversity and supporting pollinators like bees and butterflies in our sustainably farmed lavender fields. This commitment not only enhances our environment but also enriches our terroir.

Our sustainably farmed estate vineyards span Sonoma County's mild interior and cool coastal AVAs, producing exceptional wines like our Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc. Sourced from our Kellogg vineyard in Knight’s Valley, this site reflects our dedication to environmental restoration, including the removal of a century-old dam and the construction of a fish ladder to aid spawning Coho salmon. Through these efforts, we create wines that honor both the land and its natural ecosystems.

Matanzas Creek is proudly third-party certified sustainable and was among the first wineries to feature the Certified California Sustainable logo, beginning with our 2017 vintage. Animal Corridors

From falcons to mountain lions, biodiversity thrives at Matanzas Creek. With 75% of our estate left unplanted, we provide a natural habitat that connects to a 5,000-acre park, creating a refuge for wildlife and local flora. At our Kellogg vineyard in Knight’s Valley, we restored Yellowjacket Creek by removing a 100-year-old dam and building a fish ladder to support spawning Coho salmon, further enhancing the natural ecosystem.

Regenerative Farming

We use regenerative farming practices such as cover crops and compost to build healthy soils, encourage biodiversity, and strengthen long-term ecosystem resilience across our vineyards. Our iconic lavender gardens further amplify this approach, creating a thoughtfully managed landscape that supports bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators throughout the region.
